Navy Week

More than 200 visiting Sailors and Marines from across the nation visited, engaged, learned our local history, and enjoyed Philadelphia's hospitality during Navy Week. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, was proud to support the visit.

Sailors of USS Princeton CG 59 visit Philly

Sailors of USS Princeton CG 59 made time during their namesake tour to meet the leadership team of The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council. Keeping our Sailors connected to the communities they serve is at the heart of what we do, and we were glad to welcome the crew to Philadelphia.

Outstanding Cadet Medal Presented

The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, President William Youngblood presented the Outstanding Cadet medal to a deserving cadet in recognition of leadership, dedication and service. Congratulations!

2: Sword Presentation. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, is honored to be a part of the Review of the Philadelphia Consortium's Midshipmen. Presenting a sword to an outstanding midshipman is a Navy League tradition that recognizes leadership and excellence.

1: Supporting USS Somerset (LPD-25). The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, continues its support of its adopted ship USS Somerset (LPD-25) even with the Somerset being homeported in San Diego, California.

2: Supporting our Local Sea Cadets. The Philadelphia Council continues to support and participate in our local Sea Cadet unit activities. Recently, Council members visited with the cadets and helped support their training and activities.

3: Thanksgiving on the USS Somerset LPD-25. The U.S. Navy has celebrated Thanksgiving in one fashion or another since before it became an official national holiday. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, was proud to help bring a taste of home to the crew of the USS Somerset.

4: Honoring Veterans. Spent some time today again saying "Welcome Home" to many brave Americans on the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam.

1: Chapel of Four Chaplains' 80th Anniversary Banquet. Council President, Bill Youngblood and Council Exec Director, Christine M. Beady attended the Chapel of Four Chaplains' 80th Anniversary Banquet, honoring the legacy of service and sacrifice.

2: Leaders. Over 22 years ago 40 Americans came together and displayed courage, sacrifice, and leadership which most of us can only hope to match. We remember and honor them.

1: Newly Pinned Chief Petty Officers. Friends, family, shipmates, and The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, proudly joined USCG Sector Bay, Philadelphia, to celebrate the newly pinned Chief Petty Officers.

2: The Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade. You should have been there. We were! The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, and one of our sponsored Sea Cadet units spent an enjoyable day honoring ALL who have served. Thank you to everyone who marched and cheered along the route.

3: Honoring our "Coastie". The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, continues its fine tradition of honoring our "Coastie" Enlisted Petty Officer of the Quarter. Council Treasurer Steve Malloy presented the certificate of achievement. Congratulations!

4: Thanksgiving on the USS Somerset LPD-25. The U.S. Navy has celebrated Thanksgiving in one fashion or another since before it became an official national holiday. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, was proud to help bring a taste of home to the crew of the USS Somerset.

1: Pride flourishes in Bensalem, PA. The Bensalem High School Marine Corps was recently Recognized as Naval Honor School for the second consecutive year. Congratulations to the cadets and instructors!

2: Navy Day Regatta, October 16th. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, invites you to the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia on October 16th.

3: 2022 Navy Day Regatta. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, supported Saint Joseph's University in hosting the 2022 Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia on October 16, 2022. It was a great day on the water, and we thank everyone who took part.

4: Eight Bells, a Sea Service Celebration. In celebration of Sea Service, Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay, USCGC William Tate, USCGC Cleat, and the Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, came together to honor the men and women who serve our nation at sea.

1: Remembering 9-11. The 21st anniversary of 9-11-2001. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, joined our adopted ship, the USS Somerset LPD-25 as we joined the nation in remembering those we lost.

2: Heroic Gardens Event. September 18, 2022 Heroic Gardens: Helping veterans experience the healing power of nature Representing the Philadelphia Council.

3: John Basilone Parade. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, was proud to attend the recent John Basilone parade in Raritan, New Jersey, honoring Marine Corps hero Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone.

4: Delaware River Festival. The Philadelphia Council of the Navy League will be an Exhibitor at the Delaware River Festival this Saturday, September 24th from 10 am to 4 pm. We would love for you to stop by our table and say hello.

1: Celebrating 232 years!! The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, supported and sponsored the Sector Delaware Bay Coast Guard Birthday celebration, marking 232 years of service.

2: Giving Back. The rain garden at Veterans Village is finally complete! Learn more about how you can volunteer with Heroic Gardens.

3: Courage through Adversity. Courage through Adversity: Bonds to span the oceans and the ages. The USS Somerset and her crew carry forward the courage and sacrifice of the passengers and crew of Flight 93.

1: Bringing the next USS Basilone to "LIFE". The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, Director Chris Baker attended and stood tall as the newest Aegis destroyer, the future USS Basilone (DDG 122), took another step toward joining the fleet.

2: Join us for a Party! Join the Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, as we celebrate 232 years of our Coast Guard. Sector Delaware Bay is hosting a Party! The picnic will take place at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia. We hope to see you there!

1: Supporting Sea Services. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, continues to support our Sea services including the USCG Sector Delaware Bay. As part of this support, we were proud to recognize and thank the Coast Guard men and women who serve our region.

1: Raising Funds for the Basilone Memorial Foundation. Council Director Chris Baker "Hitting the beach again!" Chris attended the 2022 fundraising event for the Basilone Memorial Foundation. John Basilone was a Marine Corps hero and Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in action at Iwo Jima.

2: Annual Gathering of Heroes. The Marine Corps held its 12th annual Gathering of Heroes event on Saturday in Philadelphia. The event brought together veterans, service members and families to honor service and sacrifice.

3: The Veterans & Family Resource Fair. Thank you all who turned out to support the Veterans & Family resource fair organized by the Coatesville VA Medical Center. We were glad to connect with the veterans and families who attended.

4: Giving Back and Investing in Our Future. Council President Bill Youngblood and Director Chris Baker attended the annual Bensalem HS MCJROTC awards ceremony to recognize outstanding cadets and invest in the next generation of leaders.

5: Memorial Poster Dedication. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, had the privilege of supporting and participating in a "Memorial Poster" dedication honoring those who gave their lives in service to our nation.

1: Stem Expo at the Sea, Air, and Space Conference. The Navy League of the United States, Philadelphia Council, recently supported the Mason Division of the Sea Cadets as they shared hands-on STEM activities with attendees.

2: Naval ROTC Spring Review. Midshipman Madeline McAvoy was the recipient of the Navy League Philadelphia Chapter's Naval Officer's Award at the Naval ROTC Spring Review. Congratulations!

3: Author Presentation. Jeff Shannon attended a GPVN sponsored event, co-sponsored by our Council and others, featuring an author presentation by a Major General.

December 2021

1: Hosted an Army-Navy Football Game Party for the Council’s general membership (Bill Youngblood, Monica Hallman, Lynne Edwards, Steve Malloy, John Pilat, Chris Baker).

November 2021

1: Marched in 7^th Annual Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade with U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Mason Division and participated in Festival including providing giveaways (Monica Hallman, Lynne Edwards, John Pilat, Bill Youngblood).

2: Attended Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) Event at Philadelphia Seaport Museum celebrating the launch of Former Secretary of the Navy John Lehman’s book Where Are the Carriers (Bill Youngblood).

October 2021

4: Provided Crew of USCGC Emlen Tunnell (WPC 1145) with Lunch (Tony Luke’s) and Trolley Tour of Philadelphia (Mike Kearney and Bill Youngblood).

5: Attended reception for Crew of USCGC Emlen Tunnell (WPC 1145) at Union League of Philadelphia (Scott Anderson and Bill Youngblood).

6: Tele-conference of Council’s Workforce Development Committee Chairperson and VA-Workforce Rehabilitation Program Manager to offer Council’s support to VA programs (Jeff Shannon).

September 2021

1: Presented Sailor of the Quarter Certificate of Achievement to MK1 Alberto Campos, USCG, at USCG Sector Bay, Philadelphia (Mike Kearney).

2: Attended Navy-Air Force Football Game and presented USS Somerset (LPD 25) ballcaps to: ADM Gilday (CNO), RADM Thomas Lynch and Roger Staubach and met with MCPON Russell Smith (Tom Metzger).

3: Attended Flight 93 National Memorial 20th Anniversary Remembrance of 9-11 with USS Somerset and made $1000 Donation to USS Somerset and $1000 Donation to Somerset County Military Families Support Group (John Pilat).

4: Attended Union League of Philadelphia Veterans Table Event with Guest Speaker COL (Ret.) Steve Taylor, 20^th Anniversary Remembrance of 9-11 (Monica Hallman and Mike Delorey).

5: Attended Women’s Business Conference with Rear Admiral Patricia Wolfe (Ret.) including coordination with local U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Mason Division Color Guard to present Colors (Jeff Shannon and Bill Youngblood).

6: Participated in SFC Robert H. Yancey, Sr., South Jersey Stand Down for Homeless and At-Risk Veterans including a $1000 Donation to the Stand Down of South Jersey, Inc. (Chris Baker, Steve Malloy, John Pilat, Bill Youngblood).

1: Attended U.S. Coast Guard Birthday Celebration and the Union League of Philadelphia (Monica Hallman, Bill Youngblood, Jack Lieberman).

1: The Commissioning of LPD 26, USS John P. Murtha. It was our honor to have hosted the commissioning of the USS John P. Murtha on October 8, 2016 at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Thank you to everyone who made it a memorable day.

2: The Commissioning of USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). The Navy commissioned its newest destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG-108) during a ceremony in Philadelphia.

3: The Coast Guard Station Philadelphia. The United States Coast Guard is a military, multimission, maritime service within the Department of Homeland Security and one of the nation's five armed services.

4: The Commissioning of USCGC William Tate (WLM560). The USCGC William Tate arrived to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 10th, 1999 (the 224th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps).
