President's Message

Greetings,

As you can see from the mail you’ve received, we’re keeping our postal service very busy!

In addition to our Navy League Dinner, there is a lot happening. We are hosting a US Coast Guard reception (and river cruise the day before) and a bus trip to Groton, Connecticut, for the decommissioning ceremony for our Council’s adopted submarine, the USS Philadelphia (SBN 690). Keep reading the following pages for info on all these events.

Our Council needs your help. Our Navy League Dinner on June 8th is our primary means of fundraising for the year. We are counting on all of our members to help us meet our goal. Please Pass the Word to your friends (especially the Marines). Let the vendors and businesses you support in your community know of your involvement with the Navy League and ask them to buy a ticket, table, sponsorship or hang a flyer. Every bit helps.

This year, we will be honoring Medal of Honor recipient Col. Barney Barnum, USMC, with our Commodore Barry Distinguished Citizen Award. General James Mattis, USMC, will be our guest speaker. Sponsorship opportunities are available and a new level…Friends of the Sea Services… will allow you to send 10 uniformed sailors or Marines to the dinner as your guests.

This year, we have initiated a member retention/outreach program and hope this effort will grow our numbers. We are happy to report success maintaining our membership but new members are always needed. We will be happy to supply you with membership info to distribute at your next social or community event so you can help. Want to host a prospective member event? Just let us know!

Upcoming events include the October 11th Golf Outing at Bala Golf Club so save the date! Thanks for your support…

Fran O’Brien
Council President
